For #LineByLineTime : “Peace”
Edward smiled down at the top of Betsy’s curls as she leaned her elbows on the parapet. He relaxed beside her, staring out at the quiet scene. The moon shone full over the meadows beyond the palace walls, casting shadows below the huge oak trees and reflecting brightly off the ponds and streams.
Betsy sighed softly. “This is so nice. A beautiful night, with a full moon and a soft breeze, a full stomach, and,” she paused and winked up at him, “a handsome companion.”
He chuckled and turned her to face him, leaning his forehead against hers. “Such quiet,” he whispered. “No clashing of weapons, no soldiers shouting, no rude body noises from sleeping warriors, no tension. Just peace and quiet, and a sweet-scented, soft-haired, beautiful companion.” He put his arms around her, cuddling her close.
She put her arms around him in a warm hug. “This feels so wonderful. I’m so glad I met you.”
Edward squeezed her gently. “I never expected to find such peace with you. When we first met I thought you were a troublesome wench. But you have healed my soul and made me look forward to each day.”
“Oh, Edward, just being with you makes me so happy…” She stiffened. “Why is a shadow moving up the wall of the women’s tower?”
